WINTER IS COMING

November 26, 2013

Cooler temperatures, shorter days, rain, cloudy skies and fresh air.. It’s been a long, humid summer and we are thoroughly enjoying the lovely weather we are having at the moment.

Winter is coming, so snuggle up on your sofa with a comfy throw, a good book and a hot cup of tea/coffee/cocoa and imagine it’s snowing outside (perhaps with a little help of your AC) and begin dreaming about possibly the most festive month that lies ahead of us: December!

However, there’s one thing I strongly believe in when it comes to interiors, and it is that dark does not have to mean cozy. I say, opt for lighter neutral colours ranging from the purest white to patina brown tones for a cozy Scandinavian winter feel in your home (after all, they do know a thing or two about winter). By keeping the colour scheme neutral but adding different textures and tones, you will create depth and warmth, and in turn, coziness. Yes, layering is equal to warmth, even in interiors.

Combine a natural light wood floor (Kährs Ash Sandvig radiates Scandichic), sheepskin (available at e.g. IKEA), knit throws (Pottery Barn has a great selection), fluffy cushions and perhaps the most important element: mood lighting. My tip? Do yourself a favour and disconnect your ceiling lights. Invest in floor lamps, table lamps and lots of candles to create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere in your home.
