Yes – Wooden floors are the easiest of all floor surfaces to keep clean and looking new. Kährs wood floors will truly last a lifetime. All our wood floors contains multiple layers of a UV-cured polyurethane pre-finished in the factory in Sweden. This gives the floor a tough, durable and smooth finish which is very easy to maintain.
There are also a number of Kährs cleaning products available which are specifically for Kährs wood floors. The surface is easy to clean and maintain without the use of strong chemicals. Cleaning on a day-to-day basis using dry methods such as vacuuming or sweeping is highly recommended.
If required, the floor can also be cleaned using a wrung-out (damp, not wet) mop or floor cloth. The floor must only be moistened slightly. The best cleaning results is achieved using Kährs cleaner diluted in warm water. Vacuum cleaners, brooms, dustpans and ‘Swiffers’ are all easy ways of keeping the floor spotless.

Yes. You can have a rug ontop of a wood floor. You will need to use a breathable rug underlay (mesh or grid patterns are best). Wood goes through a natural aging process called patina. Bright sunlight can accelerate this condition. Moving rugs or other items placed on the floor to different areas from time to time is recommended to keep an even colour surface. Visit our Wood Species page to learn more about colour change over time.
Yes, stiletto-type high heels may dent a wood floor’s surface, however this is dependent on the wood species (i.e. the wood’s natural hardness) and the surface finish. Visit our Wood Species page or consult with one of our experts to learn more.
Each wood species has a different hardness that should be taken into account when choosing your floor. Birch is our softest wood and the Jatoba FSC® our hardest. However, sharp objects under foot can dent and scratch the floor, as will heavy furniture if moved thoughtlessly. As a minimum, we recommend to place doormats by your entrance/threshold to remove grit and damp from shoes and use felt pads on the feet of all furniture.
