In this coastal style pied-à-terre, it is proven that you don’t have to sacrifice sophistication and glamour to live small. A beautifully designed, elegant apartment that looks perfectly polished in such tiny footprint can be a challenge, but not impossible.
This home is all about giving attention to every single detail: a neutral palette of beiges and greys with blue accents has been used throughout the space.
The oak wood introduced with Kährs Oak Olof, supplied and installed by Nordic Homeworx, is the dominant material in the space, to which stainless steel touches were added- an embrace of reflective, clear and metallic surfaces, a mix of light wood and walls with luxurious textures coupled with a big framed mirror used as a piece of artwork keeps the feeling light and airy and makes the entire space seem quite large.
With bespoke tailor made storage spaces and some beautiful, meticulously chosen furniture, this small space was successfully transformed into a beautiful cozy elegant pied-à-terre.
The big challenge was to create privacy in such a limited open space. ikonic by R&S‘s solution was to create a custom-made divider headboard beautifully layered with a matching wallpaper to divide the space in two separate area: a living/entertainment area, and a sleeping area. This not only creates extra space within the property but also create a “wow” effect when visitors discover a perfectly set bedroom behind the divider.
From the balanced floor plan and multiple sources of light to the large scale rug, the ikonic by R&S team proves that good interior design can make 568 sq. ft feel like million.

Here are a couple of before pictures – can you believe this is how the studio looked prior to the transformation?
Last week we visited our client’s stunning apartment in The Lofts, designed by the creative duo Zeina El Zein and Ina Vallarino of 2/1000/14 Interiors.
Not only was the apartment impeccably designed and has the most impressive view of Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai that we’ve seen to date, but our beautiful Kährs Manor wood flooring was installed in all the private living spaces of the home! Kährs Manor is a rustic, white-washed and handscraped wood floor, with knots and cracks visible on its impressive 2.8 metre long planks.

Temperatures are rapidly dropping here in Dubai, and we can’t help but get a little more excited about the cooler climate and all the cosy festivities happening this season. Interior design bible Elle Decoration has stated that this autumn is all about “feathers and bold patterns combined in a wide range of shades such as soil, chestnut and rust mixed with metallic shimmering copper, gold and amber with accent colours in deep red and bright blue.” And as for the floor? Kährs Domo wood flooring – an extremely rustic 2-strip board with knots, cracks and a beautiful deep golden brown colour – is a perfect match to this autumn’s colour palette.
Another great source of inspiration is Pennsylvania-native Anthropologie. They definitely know how to inspire with their beautiful images and styling, and have got us seriously excited for a more rustic, layered, countryside autumn with their new November Lookbook, set perfectly against the the backdrop of the picturesque Scottish isles of Jura and Islay. Now we’re not only excited for the cooler climate, but also for visiting beautiful Scotland! Wow, what a landscape.
We are in love with our client’s majestic Spanish style home in The Villa, Dubailand with a perfectly elegant and airy feel. We have installed two rustic wood floors in this villa, the white-washed Kährs Oak Linen and natural oak coloured Kährs Husk. Both floors look absolutely beautiful and complement the home perfectly.

Emaar’s Hattan villas are an elegant collection of luxury villas, integrating the best in Arabian architecture with modern luxuries. Found in Arabian Ranches, The Lakes and The Meadows, we’ve seen a steady increase in wood flooring demands for these beautiful villas. Besides installing Kährs wood flooring, Hattan owners have been undertaking full renovation projects to customise their villas.
Gardens are being fully feng shui’d with beautiful seating and water features; bi-foldable doors or large windows are installed to create a smooth transition between the out/indoors; walls are knocked down to open up spaces and create an airier feel, and painted in light tones for a calm, harmonious ambiance. Light, natural toned wood flooring adds a strong coziness factor underfoot as well as an overall brightness to the home. Below are two beautiful examples of Hattan villas where Kährs wood flooring has been installed.

Last week we had the pleasure of photographing one of our clients’ homes – a beautiful apartment in the elegant Marina Quays.
This bright home with a killer view over the Dubai Marina has beautiful metallic details, a luxurious marble kitchen island, high gloss white finishes, light petrol blue wall colour (very on-trend) and a cozy checkered Hästens bed that together creates a clean, contemporary feel. The truly rustic wood floor, Kährs Oak Oyster, gives the home a balance and adds warmth and coziness. A perfect complement to contemporary interiors.

Shabby chic is a beautiful interior design style, made famous by British designer Rachel Ashwell in the late 1980’s.
The main characteristic of shabby chic interior design is aged furniture. It could be chosen for its appearance of age with all these signs of wear and tear or it can be distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. The first step is to create a change to items already in place. This requires the ability to think creatively. Consider how your furniture would look like in a different colour. An ordinary mirror can affect the feel of a room if you paint the frame and polish it to bring out the feeling that the mirror has been around for decades. The goal of Shabby Chic is getting new items look as if they are old beloved heirlooms, things that will be passed along through generations.
However, Shabby Chic is about so much more than just the details. Having a clean base in the room is extremely important to create the appropriate setting, as with any interior design scheme. You can never go wrong with the timeless combination of crisp white walls and a rustic wood floor such as Kährs Oak Danaborg or Kährs Oak Oyster to create the perfect base!
