KNOTTED LOVE

Sarah

This wonderful villa in The Meadows has embraced the trend of having a super-knotty rustic floor and contemporary furnishing.

The owners selected Husk Oak by Kährs Rugged Collection – a very rustic board with knots, cracks, and handscraping that feels marvellous underfoot with its slight wave on each plank. Exuberating the kind of warmth and coziness that a home should, all the while staying trendy with contrasting modern interiors.

We love to see the trend of rustic flooring vs. contemporary furnishing continue to flourish. We also LOVE to see how much pets love Kährs wood floors!

AFRICA DREAMING

Sarah

“While the more stereotypical animal print and wood designs traditionally found in African-inspired interiors are beautiful, African design seems to be embracing contemporary influences, pairing them with ethnic furniture style and colour. Being the second largest continent on the planet after Asia, there is certainly plenty to be inspired by.” – InsideOut, February 2012

This home in Dubai’s Green Community has exactly that – a beautiful contemporary and airy take on rustic African design. Dramatic, vintage-looking Kährs Oak Danaborg wood flooring completes the look. Oak Danaborg has a handcrafted surface to enhance the beauty of the knots and cracks, and is lightly smoked and surface treated with a natural white oil that gives it a grey look.

RUSTIC MONOCHROME

Sarah

Is there a better description for this turn-of-the-century attic apartment than rustic monochrome?

The large bright living room; the original black beams on the ceiling; a dramatic black wood floor that pops against the crisp white walls; a beautiful fireplace that cozies up the space. This is a winning combination.

If you would like to have a monochrome scheme but fear it might come across as being too cold, then adding some natural materials and textures such as natural plants and wood elements (for example, an oak coffee table with a beautiful brown patina) as well as memorabilia or heirlooms will create a sense of balance. The key to achieving charm and an inhabited feeling ultimately lies in the details.

You can also take it a step further by introducing an accent colour in small details such as cushions or throws, and rotate the colour on a seasonal basis – all while keeping the monochrome base.

As for the floor – if you are interested in a dramatic black oak floor that will last a lifetime – we recommend Kährs Oak Nouveau Charcoal, a 2-strip floor with a brushed, black pigmented, matt lacquer finish.

MINIMALISTIC ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

Sarah

Inspired by the modern-day graphic gray, white and black decor, this home has a ultra-cool Rock & Roll theme – a cocky attitude and hot pink accents mixed up with warmer earth tones and soft textile components.

As with any project, it’s always best to start off with the foundation/base. Freshen up your walls with white paint and lay a classic 3-strip oak floor Oak Siena by Kährs European Naturals Collection with white skirting and mouldings for a streamlined finish. Decorate with heartwarming earth tones that are in line with your home’s base tones. They do say “a solid foundation is the bridge to success” for a reason after all!

Once your base is set, add a personalized graphic wallpaper by Mr Perswall as well as an unexpected colour for a pop of rebellion (Rock & Roll!) that will add interest without being overwhelming or tiring over time.

THE BRONZE AGE

Sarah

This central Stockholm apartment has a beautiful golden-brown oak floor that balances out the high ceilings and white base; and lets each piece of furniture stand out individually, while unifying to a whole interior design scheme.

With such a beautiful wood floor, there is no need for much other than a clean base. For a lifetime of satisfaction, your wood floor should be able to stand out yet blend in at the same time. Once you have it, you will simply wonder how you ever could have been without it. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

That’s the beauty of Kährs Oak Nouveau Bronze, a 1-strip floor with a brushed, bronze pigmented, matt lacquer finish.

Reminiscent of an hip hotel suite in bustling Manhattan, this opulent studio apartment creates an airy feel with its high ceilings, neutral scheme and punches of colour in details. All elements of this home add up to the highly interesting and luxurious look of an exclusive Manhattan hotel suite, while still containing the warmth and welcoming feel of a home.

To get this look, select a dark chocolate wood flooring such as Oak Lava by Kährs Harmony Collection. The dramatic 3-strip floor will effortlessly give your home that cool, timeless Manhattan style while creating a sense of comfort underfoot.

DARING TO BE DIFFERENT

Sarah

In the latest issue of InsideOut magazine, you will find a feature on one of our clients’ apartments in Dubai Marina. Mr Wilfred, who lives in the apartment with his two adorable dogs Pierre and  Chu Chu, selected the beautiful Ash Gotland wood floor from Kährs Nordic Naturals Collection. Ash Gotland is a light, exclusive 1-strip floor with nature’s own design showing through its dramatic knots and a lively structure. A characteristic is its bi-colour pattern. The darker core in Ash creates fantastic patterns and makes this a very special floor.

Here is a sneak peak from InsideOut magazine’s app version for tablets. Don’t forget that you can download the app for free today to read the full interview with Mr Wilfred to find out about his story and thinking behind his eccentric home.

THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER

Sarah

We adore this bright and airy Hamptons-inspired Saheel Villa in Arabian Ranches, Dubai. To get this look, combine light linen and cotton textures with Oak Oyster wood flooring by Kährs Artisan Collection. Oak Oyster is a rustic 1-strip floor with handscraping and large knots that together with the white staining gives the product a very rustic yet contemporary look.
