VINTAGE DECO

Sarah

This lofty apartment in Stockholm by Historiska Hem boasts big windows and an industrial feeling that we love. The deco has been kept minimalist but with plenty of vintage elements. The home is cozy despite its bare, industrial base, with the help of the white-washed wood floor and a combination of textures, giving a very homey and comfortable feeling to the space.

To achieve a similar look, we suggest our beautiful Oak Paris wood floor by Kährs Capital Collection. Only the finest oak is selected for this exclusive 1-strip/plank floor, and the natural wood characteristics are enhanced by brushing and microbevelled edges, and a slight white-washed surface.

LOFT APARTMENT

Sarah

Further to our last post featuring the inspiration mood board for this home’s bright dining room, we wanted to share some more images of this beautiful and effortless loft apartment in Kungsholmen in Stockholm, Sweden.

The brightness of the space, in combination with the minimalist monochrome decor, makes for a timeless and elegant look. And we love the white-washed herringbone oak wood floors.

ABOVE THE CLOUDS

Sarah

This penthouse in Emirates Crown in Dubai Marina is one of our favourite projects of all time. Designed by Marie Laurent Architecture, the home features carefully curated iconic designer furniture and art, as well as an incredible view over Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.

The open-plan design and natural light of the space enhances the natural beauty of the massive planks of our rustic 1-strip Casa Oak wood floor by Kährs Grande Collection. Each plank is an impressive 2800 mm long and 260 mm wide, thereby giving a maximal feeling of the oak’s texture. This floor certainly lives up to the collection’s Grande name!

WHITE BEDROOM

Sarah

We love this airy, crispy-white bedroom in Gothenburg, Sweden via Alvhem. The interiors of this bedroom are precisely as a bedroom should be- calming, soothing and harmonious.

The various light tones are perfectly balanced in the diverse textures; from the stark white linen bedsheets to the white-washed wood floors (similar to our Floor of the Year: Kährs Vista), white-painted walls and chunky greige knitted throw.

An absolutely dreamy bedroom!

PATTERNED FLOORS: MIX & MATCH

Sarah

This Fantastic Frank apartment in Stockholm, Sweden shows us how beautiful it is to combine wood floors with different patterns in a single space.

Though we do not often recommend doing so, it can be both an interior design enhancement as well as a clever way to add more interest to the space. However, we do recommend keeping the colour tone of the floors the same, or very similar. The reason for this is that by keeping a unanimous colour tone, you will add a sense of harmony and peace in the space.

This apartment contains two different wood flooring patterns – herringbone and Dutch. These two classic patterns create a sincerely elegant, effortless and timeless feeling in the apartment, and when combined, do so even more.

The oak wood floors are both stained and aged to a beautiful brown colour, which unites them, despite half the apartment being in one pattern and the other half in another. It’s that overall holistic feeling that is created that we love!

For a similar look, we recommend choosing our herringbone floor, Kährs Oak AB; and our Dutch-patterned floor, Kährs Oak Palazzo Rovere.

BEDROOM INSPIRATION: INDUSTROMANCE

Sarah

The bedroom is one of the most important spaces in a home, and making sure that it is a calm, harmonious and tranquil space is an absolute must.

We are really feeling inspired by the “industromance” (industrial meets romantic) in this bedroom in Sweden via Stadshem Mäkleri. The combination of earthy tones and natural materials together create a very cosy and inviting feeling.

Seeing as the most important element in the bedroom is the bed, especially considering that we spend on average 25 years(!) of our lives sleeping- it is best to ensure the mattress you select is comfortable and of a high quality standard. A great option for high-quality mattresses is the Dream Mattress by Celeste. The Dream Mattress was specially designed for the hot weather of the UAE, and regulates air flow and restores your energy while you sleep. Definitely worth the investment!

We suggest pairing Celeste’s Dream Mattress with a simple, nearly-invisible base and cosy white linen sheets for a Scandinavian look. Add soft details such as a beautiful pendant lamp, rug, cushions and art with a little bit rougher, industrial-style accents such as a floor/table lamp, wire basket, and clothes rack.

Complete the look with a rustic wood floor with a slight grey tint, such as Möre by Kährs Småland Collection. Möre is a rustic floor with a scraped, flowing surface that high enhances the structure in an natural way, where the cold grey tones appear to have been worn down, revealing a warmer base.

We love the combination of the hard and soft textures in this industromantic bedroom!

A PIED À TERRE AT THE PALM DUBAI

Sarah

In this coastal style pied-à-terre, it is proven that you don’t have to sacrifice sophistication and glamour to live small. A beautifully designed, elegant apartment that looks perfectly polished in such tiny footprint can be a challenge, but not impossible.

This home is all about giving attention to every single detail: a neutral palette of beiges and greys with blue accents has been used throughout the space.

The oak wood introduced with Kährs Oak Olof, supplied and installed by Nordic Homeworx, is the dominant material in the space, to which stainless steel touches were added- an embrace of reflective, clear and metallic surfaces, a mix of light wood and walls with luxurious textures coupled with a big framed mirror used as a piece of artwork keeps the feeling light and airy and makes the entire space seem quite large.

With bespoke tailor made storage spaces and some beautiful, meticulously chosen furniture, this small space was successfully transformed into a beautiful cozy elegant pied-à-terre.

The big challenge was to create privacy in such a limited open space. ikonic by R&S‘s solution was to create a custom-made divider headboard beautifully layered with a matching wallpaper to divide the space in two separate area: a living/entertainment area, and a sleeping area. This not only creates extra space within the property but also create a “wow” effect when visitors discover a perfectly set bedroom behind the divider.

From the balanced floor plan and multiple sources of light to the large scale rug, the ikonic by R&S team proves that good interior design can make 568 sq. ft feel like million.

The space has been realised by Rim and Sywar, founders of www.ikonic-byrs.com ([email protected], www.ikonic-byrs.com).

THE LOFTS

Sarah

Last week we visited our client’s stunning apartment in The Lofts, designed by the creative duo Zeina El Zein and Ina Vallarino of 2/1000/14 Interiors.

Not only was the apartment impeccably designed and has the most impressive view of Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai that we’ve seen to date, but our beautiful Kährs Manor wood flooring was installed in all the private living spaces of the home! Kährs Manor is a rustic, white-washed and handscraped wood floor, with knots and cracks visible on its impressive 2.8 metre long planks.

DOME

Sarah

Hello 2015! First blog post of the year, and we want to keep it fresh. For us, nothing conveys fresh more than some white wood flooring completed with classic/elegant interiors. And this apartment in Stockholm beautifully combines the two.

Kährs Oak Dome is a 1-strip stained oak floor in a warm white tone. The long length of the board enhances the depth of the floor, and the thin overall thickness (7 mm) combined with its impressive 12 year warranty, makes this floor ideal for renovation projects.

RELIABILITY IS KEY

Sarah

We’re always happy when we come across beautiful, simplistic homes that feature a classic 3-strip wood floor made from natural oak. And you must know by now that our favourite go-to wood floor is Kährs Oak Siena; a classic floor with strips selected to provide a calm appearance but still with certain degree of variation in the grain.

What makes this wood floor special is that it sets a perfect base for any kind of interior- from the most rustic to the most contemporary and everything in between. Though not a floor that perhaps makes an extremely bold statement, it is rather one that subtly affects the room’s atmosphere and general feel.

As for the maintenance? This floor is extremely easy to maintain. We like to say a little vacuuming goes a long way- and we mean it. With its factory-finished silk matt lacquer finish, this floor has a natural subtle lustre that will last for generations. Our silk matt lacquer complements the wood’s character by accentuating its natural structure. It also makes the floor more hardwearing and easier to clean. Despite its strength, Kährs’ lacquer coating is exceptionally thin and, unlike many other lacquers, does not conceal the structure of the wood. In addition, with Kährs silk matt lacquer there’s no artificial shine. Combined with the unique engineered structure of each plank and joints, Kährs Oak Siena is quite simply the most reliable natural wood floor you can get!
